Since news of the dam break on Arkabutla Lake came out in May 2023 Delta Sailing has tried to plan a way forward. We are told by the Corp of Engineers that repair and refill could take two to five years. This makes DSA a storage facility for that time period.

To preserve the potential of coming out of the experience once more as a sailing club with water in the lake, docks, all our physical facilities, as well as boat storage space, the Board has decided to do all it can to ride out this holding mode and reemerge to offer local sailors a familiar Delta Sailing Association. We have recently resigned a lease with the Corps and are polling members to find out how many owners will continue to store boats on the lot at what dues rate. Between now and our November Annual Meeting we hope to learn what dues income may be expected and if we can cut expenses to match. The launch ramp, adjacent dry storage area and other facilities makes DSA a great sailing venue under normal conditions, but even without water, the storage value is considerable.

Already evident is the importance of members who have indicated they will stick with DSA through this “storm”. Delta Sailing has leased this lot from the Corps for 56 years and has served area sailors for over seven decades and looks forward to the future.
