Dear DSA Member,
This is a reminder for the DSA 2023 Annual Meeting November 15, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, Room A, 3030 Poplar Avenue, Memphis.
As you may know, we stand at a crossroads. As our Commodore said to me, “This will be a united we stand divided we fall meeting” the main subject will be about how we will handle the Arkabutla Dam disaster – and whether there will still be a sailing club and boat storage when the situation is resolved.
Since the club was founded in 1962, the Army Corps has been told that they are no longer allowed to lease property to private individuals or organizations. However, DSA was “Grandfathered-in”. If we let our lease for the boat-lot lapse, the Corps has told us that it will never again be reinstated. SO THE FUTURE OF SAILING AT ARKABUTLA IS IN OUR HANDS.
We need to establish that there is adequate support to make it work.
A part of this effort, we will need to make some amendments to the By-Laws and Constitutions, so the club may be administered during this period until we can sail again.
The third issue on the table is to select the leaders that will guide us through this period – think about stepping forward to lead.
Other agenda items may be added later.
